Understanding Birth Trauma and the Healing Power of EMDR

Childbirth is often portrayed as a joyous and transformative experience. But for many women, it can also be a time of intense trauma and distress. In fact, a recent NSW parliamentary birth trauma inquiry revealed a staggering statistic: 1 in 3 women reported experiencing birth trauma. Let that sink in for a moment. One in three.

As someone who has journeyed through a harrowing birth experience with my own child, I know firsthand how deeply these experiences can impact us. What is Birth Trauma?

This can include a long or difficult labor, an emergency C-section, lack of support, or even seemingly routine interventions that felt invasive or disempowering. The emotional aftermath of such experiences can manifest in many ways, such as:

  • Increased self-blame and disempowering beliefs about your worth and safety
